Origin Story
Growing up my life consisted of working hard, going for what I want, and making mistakes to continue to further my education. It took up till my junior year of high school to figure out that I was interested in Marine Science. My high school Advanced Marine Biology teacher believed in me and signed me up for a week trip to Santa Catalina Island to explore the field of marine science. Here I got to do activities such as day/night snorkeling, identifying organisms under a microscope, and learning about the biology of the marine life near the island.

As a LatinX, I never knew there were actual career paths involved in the ocean because I never heard of a LatinX or female in the science fields. I want to make a difference which is why I am interested in working with high school students to give them the same research opportunity that I had in high school. After this experience, I decided to go to California State University, Monterey Bay, and study Marine Science. In my second year of college, I added my Biology minor because I wanted to be able to work with marine organisms. My long-term goal is to get my Ph.D. in Marine Ecology and be able to work with high schoolers and teach them about Ocean Conservation.
